Finally, somebody came out with the closest thing to the PDW-1. This guy took a Ruger LC Carbine (in 5.7x28mm NATO) and chopped the barrel down (to 9″, which is 3″ shorter than what I envisioned) and put on a sliding stock from a SIG. Check out this video!

Interesting. When you described it in the books I imagined a p90 looking gun.

Nope, it was a 12″ barrel, magazine well in the pistol grip, and sliding stock – almost identical to what this guy rigged up.

Not sure. I must have had a p90 on my mind and thought it was better than your idea lol. Have to admit that the one in the link does look pretty fun.

Hmm. I wonder why? I describe it as the magazine fed through the pistol grip, a sliding stock, and a 12″ barrel.

In my day we would just cut down an M-2 (carbine). There was the M3A1 as well, with the wire stock removed and a shortened Mag it would fit into a brief case but it was still heavy/clunky.
